Anyone from MassArt should come to this because I’m so incredibly proud of my class and my major, we really are a talented bunch of people.
I have two pieces in the show, and I also made the opener clip.
Answer:
Aw, you’re not bugging me at all! I love when I get questions from people interested in applying to MassArt, I wish I had done it more when I was in high school.
I’ve heard some rumors going around that RISD/CalArts/SCAD/other prestigious American art schools are actually not all they’re cracked up to be. Yes, when you graduate it will look really good to have it on your resume that that was your education, but also, it’s better to learn a ton and get a lot of hands on experience when you’re paying an arm and a leg for school. My dad is an art professor and knows a lot of people who work at those schools and they’ve seen the kind of work MassArt students do and believe that we are actually better quality and harder working people than those that go to the more expensive places. It may be because a lot of us are not the richest people and take advantage of the in-state tuition so we appreciate money more and work our asses off to make every penny count towards our education.
I dunno, I just really love MassArt and the community and everything, I’m a huge fan of that school I go to. There are some people who don’t feel the same way I do, but I’ve also found that these same people don’t put in as much effort into their work as they could be, or are just really nit-picky with all the negative aspects of the school. Every college is gonna have it’s things that need to be improved, but I’ve found that the positives really out weigh the negatives. Like for example, it’s frustrating when you’re a freshman and you have to do all the studio foundation work that may not be exactly the type of stuff you want to be doing, but once you wait it out and get into your major in sophomore year and find out what you really like, it’s so worth the time and energy put into making not so great work your first year. You learn so much from trial and error and they really enforce that here, where as I’ve heard other art schools want you to be absolutely perfect artists when you step into the door, and that’s not realistic.
I went to a really small high school (there were only 69 people in my graduating class) so going to MassArt was a huge deal for me because it felt so large in retrospect. In comparison to other colleges, it is a little bit smaller, but it just makes running into people easier which is a good way to make lots of different friends fast. Most of the people here are super nice and helpful when you want to collaborate, and yeah. There are so many more things I could say about the school, but it’s definitely worth considering applying to. Like I said, it’s not for everyone, but if you make the most out of it and keep a positive attitude about your work even when it gets tough, you will get so much out of an education here.
What major are you thinking about? It’s ok if you have no idea at this point, you still have two years till your foundation year and even then you have that time to figure out what you want to do, and even when you get into a major and you’re not 100% happy, you’re allowed to switch your major. Just keep all of your options open right now, many people at your age probably think of illustration or graphic design as a first choice, and not that those are bad, there are a lot of talented people in those majors who enjoy what they do, but also consider trying out some of the mediums of the smaller departments here. I’m in film/video which is definitely a small department, but everyone in my class is super enthusiastic about making their work and we’re very much a tight-knit community since we help each other out on all of our projects. I hope this helps at least a little bit! If you have anymore specific questions, feel free to ask! ♡♡♡
My friend Henry made this based off a video outtake I uploaded onto my YouTube [x]

Answer:
Ahhh how did I forget about cookie butter’s existence D: I need some of that to power me through these finals.
how I feel about being up this late working on projects/ the mountain of shit I have to get done this week/ general frustration with my major right now
bringing this back because I’m in the same mental state right now. sorry for all the finals all-nighter complaining posts, but yeah. life is rough.
My video final is due tomorrow and I’m internally crying right now because I’m putting in so many hours of pain-staking After Effects editing for this D J M O R E S P A C E music video and I’m pretty sure once it hits 3 am I’m going to be externally crying.
Thank bless for Henry being here right now giving me moral support.
Procrastination rears its ugly head in new twisted ways everyday during finals week.
It just occurred in spending 35 minutes plucking my eyebrows so there were absolutely no stray hairs instead of working on clips in After Effects for my video final.
